Job Searching Is Probably the Most Isolating Thing You Can Go Through as an Adult. I Know, Because I've Been There.
Job searching ranks right up there with death, divorce, and moving in terms of emotional toll. And most people do it completely alone. Here's what I learned when I was a recruiter who got laid off.

Job searching is probably the most isolating thing you can go through as an adult.
It ranks right up there with death, divorce, and moving.
And most people do it alone.
I know, because I've been there.
When a Recruiter Had to Learn How to Get a Job
During the Great Recession, I got laid off.
The unemployment office forced me to go through job search training.
The worst part? I was a recruiter. I had hired hundreds of people. And now I was being trained by someone who had never hired a single one.
It felt humiliating.
I thought: I should know how to do this. I hire people for a living.
But I didn't.
Because no one teaches you how to get a job. They just hand you a broken playbook.
Write a resume. Apply. Pray.
It didn't work then. And it's even worse now.
The Broken Playbook
Today, mass applications are the default strategy. AI filters screen you out before a human sees your name. Job boards are full of scams and listings that are already filled. Most people will apply over 100 times and still never get picked.
Not because they're unqualified.
Because they're invisible.
The market isn't crowded with better candidates. It's crowded with candidates using the same broken system.
What I Built Instead
That experience - the humiliation of being a recruiter who couldn't land a job - is what drove me to build a different system. Not a guessing game. Not a one-size-fits-all checklist.
A strategy built on visibility, value, and becoming the Candidate of Choice.
Not applying your way to an offer. Being recruited for one.
Because here's what I know from the other side of the hiring table: the candidates who get hired aren't always the most qualified. They're the ones who made themselves impossible to overlook.
If you're scared to ask for help with your search, I understand that too. There's real shame in job searching. No one wants to admit they need a new playbook.
But here's the reality: if you wouldn't invest in yourself, that's the same energy the market sends back. People trying to underpay you. Overlook you. Doubt your value.
The energy you put out is the energy you receive.
And when you finally decide you're worth backing? That shift changes everything.
